Le fonti antiche ricordano la presenza nella Regio IX di numerosi portici in particolare di due Porticus Minuciae. Della più antica – la Porticus Minucia – sappiamo che è stata fondata dal futuro console M. Minucius Rufus nel 107 a.C. dopo la vittoria sugli Scordisci. Si trattava di un’area porticata di cui sono ricostruibili tre bracci che inglobavano i templi di Largo Argentina. La porticus si sviluppava a est della piazza.La seconda Porticus detta Minucia Frumentaria è riferibile all’età claudia; in essa si svolgevano le distribuzioni gratuite di grano (frumentationes). Punto di confluenza di migliaia di persone, la Porticus Minucia Frumentaria aveva dimensioni grandiose: di essa si ricordano i quarantacinque ingressi di cui era dotata. La sua ubicazione antica dovrebbe coincidere con una considerevole porzione della Villa Pubblica, di cui ne occupò in parte i terreni. La zona corrisponde all’area compresa tra P.zza Del Gesù e via delle Botteghe Oscure. Di quella che è identificata come la Porticus Minucia Frumentaria rimane un edificio di enormi dimensioni (150 m x 115 m) nei cui lati est e nord-est sono annessi ambienti allungati con funzione di horrea. All’interno della Frumentaria è inglobato il tempio delle Ninfe, originariamente posto all’interno della Villa Publica. I due portici risultano adiacenti e il secondo è un ampliamento del primo di cui prese il nome con l’aggiunta dell’appellativo che ne caratterizzò la nuova funzione. Nel III secolo d.C, alla distribuzione di grano nella Porticus Minucia Frumentaria, si sostituì l’elargizione gratuita di pane, carne suina e vino. È in questa fase la decadenza della Porticus Minucia.Nel V secolo la Frumentaria è in rovina: nel limite sud di essa è attestato un asse stradale in terra battuta che collega il Tevere, la zona dei Fori e il Campo Marzio. Tra la fine del V e l’inizio del VI secolo di fronte al tempio A si imposta un edificio di pianta quadrata fornito di una terrazza con sedile continuo in muratura, identificato come sala riunioni forse di un monastero – il Monasterum Boetianum, sorto tra i templi A e B e il limite nord del porticato.
