Nel passaggio tra il tempio dei Castori e il tempio del Divo Giulio sono ancora visibili i blocchi in travertino di base di un arco a tre fornici da identificare con quello eretto dal Senato nel 19 a.C. in onore di Augusto allo scopo di commemorarne la vittoria su Marco Antonio e Cleopatra nella celebra battaglia di Azio (31 a.C.), da cui il nome Aziaco.Dell’arco possediamo una riproduzione su denari emessi dalla zecca di Roma nel 17 a.C. a nome del monetiere L. Vinicius, ove è raffigurato un arco a tre fornici: quello centrale più alto sormontato da una quadriga trionfale, mentre quelli laterali più bassi due statue di arcieri. È stato supposto che l’arco volesse commemorare anche il quasi coevo trionfo di Augusto sulle popolazioni dei Pannoni, Dalmati e Iapodi.Nel 1888, durante lavori di scavo, nei quali si rinvennero tracce della base dell’arco, furono scoperti anche frammenti dorici della trabeazione che doveva ornare lo stesso arco.Alcuni studiosi sono convinti che si tratti della stessa struttura al cui interno erano appesi per pubblicazione i Fasti consolari.
